….in the “olden” days, the wealth of a household consisted in linens.Itinerant weavers set up their looms in households to weave for the family.The fabric was rolled into bolts, and put into cedar chests to become part of the dowries for the next generation.. Daughters and their mothers turned these pieces into bed sheets, table cloths and other household items. Elaborate embroideries were a clear mark of distinction.
For me finding these pieces at antique markets

is always a treat, as this cloth is fabulous for today’s clothing, such as jackets, skirts, pants etc.. .Linen, a luxury fabric, is the best summer wear, cool, comfortable —and through washing, it becomes softer and softer.

Finally I managed to get pics from the QUILTITALIA Quilting Weekend in Tivoli (Italy)
I taught a course using the “crazy quilt ” technique , using all kinds of different fabrics, scraps, from the fabrics that I use in clothing .The participants each manged to make a beautiful purse in two hours. My my old, antique, reconditioned Singer sewing machine caused quite a stir with the ladies.It is perfect for sewing the thick seams,since I was afraid of breaking needles on the new machines—the old technology still works as well as ever..
